Welcome to the Timebank Plus May Newsletter
Now is the time to enjoy our gardens, grow flowers and vegetables or get out in nature. The Timebank Gardening Team would like to welcome you to join our small, friendly group of volunteers who go out to help people in their gardens on Tuesday mornings. Training, support and supervision will be provided by Emma, our lovely new Gardening Team Leader. We are also able to take on some additional gardening referrals from Timebank participants who are in need of occasional help with their gardens. Please get in touch for further details.
We are also able to offer shared Growing Space on our Allotment at Bath City Farm to anyone who would like to grow their own produce. We have constructed level paths and raised beds on the site so as to make this opportunity more accessible to people with disabilities or back problems. Some advice and guidance on food growing is available if needed. Please contact us if you would like more info about this project.
Here are some further opportunities to get active and involved this month:
FeelGood Walks, Tuesdays 12:30 to 1:30
FeelGood Walks are an opportunity to get out in nature, explore our local green spaces, meet other people and get a bit fitter. These walks are suitable for people of all levels of fitness and we will make sure that we go at a pace which is comfortable for you. Well behaved dogs are welcome on the walks. We leave from the Timebank centre at 86 High St, Twerton at 12.30 prompt. Contact us for further info or just turn up and join us.
Digital Drop-In, Thursdays 10.00 to 12.30
Our Digital Drop-In sessions are a great chance to get help and advice with all sorts of digital issues on your phone, iPad or laptop. Whether it is bookmarking favourite websites and saving passwords, changing providers, setting up WhatsApp or sorting out tricky phone problems, Nicky and our expert volunteers will be able to offer guidance and support.
If you’ve got a digital issue, pop into the Timebank any time between 10am and 12.30pm on a Thursday and we’ll do our very best to help.
Twerton Lunch Club, Wednesdays 11.30 to 2.00
Our very friendly and welcoming lunch club meets every Wednesday from 11.30 – 2.00 in Twerton. It costs just £6 for a delicious, freshly cooked 2-course meal. We also have a varied programme of activities, including quizzes, games, speakers, music, raffles and more. We celebrate seasonal festivals such as Xmas with special meals and entertainment and are also planning to organise a summer trip this year. If you or someone you know might like to join us, just pop into the office, give us a ring on 01225 442813 or send an email to timebankplus@gmail.com We would also love to hear from anyone who would like to help out at the Club on an occasional or regular basis. Lunch will be provided free of charge.
‘Borrow It’ Library of Things, open Tues & Weds 10 – 4, Thurs 10 – 12.30
Our ‘Borrow It’ Library of Things offers a unique chance to access occasional-use items free of charge. We have a wide range of gardening equipment, camping gear, DIY tools, home maintenance items, equipment for events, catering utensils, musical instruments and more.
Donations of tools and equipment have been flooding in and we now have a good stock of strimmers, hedge trimmers and lawn mowers available, all in good working condition. Our carpet cleaners and other home maintenance items have also been in high demand. If you are planning an event or a camping trip this year, you may like to reserve a tent, a marquee or something else. You can view the full catalogue on our website at: https://timebankplus.co.uk/wp/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/Spring-2026-Borrow-it-catalogue-List-A4-1.pdf
Everything has been donated by local people and can be borrowed free of charge. What better way to save money, reduce the need for storage space and help reduce waste?
Here’s an updated wish list of the things we are still looking for – please let us know if you can help: https://timebankplus.co.uk/wp/wp-content/uploads/2026/02/WISH-LIST-Spring-2026-A4-2.pdf
Creative Writing for Everyone, Thursdays 10:00 to 11:00 (online via Zoom)
The Creative Writing Group is a small, friendly group of people who meet up online each week to practise and improve our creative writing skills. Some of us have never written before and others are more experienced. Our aim is for these sessions to be fun and to unleash our creative flow. Each week we do a short writing exercise during the session and then take a look at short stories or poems which members of the group have posted up during the week.
If you are interested in joining the group, please email us for the Zoom link and the link to the Writing Forum.
Bath Guitar Group, Thursdays 10:30 to 12.00
The guitar sessions are a lot of fun, with a good size group and guidance from Nick, the facilitator. Anyone who is able to play a short list of simple chords is able to join and there are occasional opportunities to perform. Music is emailed to members via Dropbox, so that you have the opportunity to print it out and practise at home. For more information about this group, please email timebankplus@gmail.com or call the office on 01225 442813.
Community Sharing Space
In addition to the groups and projects listed above, we are still able to offer use of our centre free of charge to local community-based groups of up to about 8 people who would like to use our venue for a meeting or activity, when it is not already in use. Please get in touch if this is of interest, and we can discuss your needs.
New AI Club
A member of Timebank Plus is inviting people to join a new AI Club. The Club includes both the technical side of AI (how it works) and also discussing the wider implications. Everyone is welcome. Please contact Timebank Plus to register your interest.
Bring & Take Plants & Seedlings
We have set up a table outside our centre where people can bring surplus garden plants or veg seedlings and/or help themselves to any plants which they would like to grow. Please come and check out what has been donated and feel free to take some.
Timebank Community Book Library
This is a reminder that we have a small library of books here at the Timebank Plus centre, which can be borrowed free of charge by anyone interested.
Local Events
We are planning to have stalls at a number of community events this summer and welcome people to help with setting up and staffing stalls and other publicity displays.
Tool Sharpening Workshop
We would like to host a session for people to learn how to sharpen common tools such as chisels and shears. We are looking for a volunteer who is able to lead this workshop. Please contact us if you are able to help with this.
